attachment-informed EMDR: Clinical Demonstration and Applied Decision Making

About this event

Even with solid EMDR training, sessions can feel more complex when the client’s distress is rooted in early attachment injury and developmental trauma.

This standalone six-hour, one-day masterclass follows the two-day foundations training in attachment-informed EMDR and is designed for EMDR-trained clinicians who want to deepen clinical decision-making by observing live demonstrations and exploring key decision points through guided analysis and structured discussion.

What you will take from this masterclass
You will leave with more clarity about...
• how to track capacity and shifts in nervous system regulation as the session unfolds
• how to recognize when processing is moving, stalled, or becoming overly cognitive
• how to make cleaner choices about pacing, focus, and intervention within the standard EMDR protocol
• how and when attachment-focused imaginal and relational interweaves can support repair and continuation of processing
• how to return the client to present orientation with containment and completion

A simple plan for the day
• Observe extended clinical demonstrations
• Analyze the decision points and the clinical rationale behind them
• Leave with practical clarity you can carry into your next sessions

What you will see during the day
• Bridging from present-day experience to formative developmental targets with containment
• Resourcing first, so the system has enough support for processing
• Activation guided through image, emotion, and body sensation while tracking nervous system capacity
• Real-time pacing adjustments based on nervous system cues
• Attachment-focused imaginal and relational interweaves selected and timed to support repair when spontaneous processing is insufficient
• Session segments brought to completion with a clear return to present orientation

How the day is taught
Teaching centers on live demonstration, guided clinical analysis, structured questions, and focused discussion.

Mark Brayne explains his clinical decision-making as he works so you can follow the logic moment by moment.

Important note
This training is delivered in person, with no virtual option.

Who this is for
This masterclass is for EMDR-trained clinicians who want to refine clinical decision-making in attachment-informed EMDR through observation.

It is especially helpful if you want a clearer sense of...
• when to stay out of the way and when to intervene
• how to time interweaves without disrupting processing
• how to keep sessions coherent and complete

Register for the masterclass. The possibilities are endless.

  • Mark Brayne
Mark Brayne is an EMDR trainer and clinician based in the UK, recognised for his development and teaching of attachment-informed EMDR. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior BBC foreign correspondent, covering Russia, East and Central Europe, and China. He brings many years of experience working with complex trauma, attachment injury, and developmental presentations, and is widely respected for the clarity and depth he brings to this work. Mark’s teaching integrates EMDR, attachment theory, and nervous system awareness, with a strong emphasis on case conceptualisation, clinical decision-making, and session structure. He is known for helping clinicians identify the underlying patterns that organise symptoms, and for translating complex material into practical steps therapists can use immediately. His presentations are dynamic and engaging, and his trainings are intentionally experiential. Mark typically demonstrates the approach live, explains his clinical reasoning as he works, and then guides participants into supported practice so the learning becomes embodied rather than only conceptual. Mark also uses metaphor as a teaching tool in a way that clinicians tend to remember. One he often returns to is the DeLorean, describing the EMDR protocol as a vehicle for revisiting the past with intention, preparation, and a clear route back to the present. For him, this reflects a core principle of the work: we do not revisit early experiences randomly or without support, and we always return to the here and now with containment and completion. Across his trainings, Mark combines clear instruction, live demonstrations, and structured practice, helping clinicians understand not only what to do, but why. His teaching is valued for being grounded, respectful of the EMDR model, and immediately applicable in clinical practice.

Target Audience

This program is intended for licensed mental health clinicians who are trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and who have completed a foundational training in attachment informed EMDR. The training is designed for clinicians working with clients who present with attachment related distress, developmental trauma, and chronic patterns of dysregulation, and who want to refine clinical decision making through observation of live demonstrations.
The program is appropriate for psychologists, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, and other licensed mental health professionals who use EMDR in clinical practice. It is designed for clinicians seeking advanced education to strengthen assessment, pacing, and intervention choices within the standard EMDR protocol. The training is educational in nature and is not intended for trainees, students, or individuals seeking clinical supervision or psychotherapy.

Continuing Education Credit Hours are available from the following organizations
